Why I Love Myself

Whew…. this is a loaded topic. Why did I choose this? It’s not hard to write about but, I don’t want to sound so vain. I have to give it to you how it rolls off the young brain. Get ready to experience something weird, poetic, magnetic, and why I love myself will be apparent. It may seem conceited, but it has taken me many moons to get to this place of whole.

Growing up, I always wrote myself a letter in front of every journal to tell myself why I am so important and how valuable I was. I didn’t feel those words all the time, but I would write it anyway because I would read it during hard times to encourage myself. (I’m crying now just thinking about every time I’ve done that.) I have some pieces included here.

Dear Kimberly,

I love you. I love how you are so quick to give, love, and accept others even when they wanted you out. I love how you rock steady and reciprocate love. I love that you keep going no matter how bleak it looks somedays. I find it breathtaking that you find the good in every situation, person, and experience. I love how you observe the small qualities that others seem to overlook. When you are uneasy, I find it impressive that you find power in listening to that inner voice. It’s taken some time, but you’ve finally gotten a clue. I love how you find humor in everything. I love how you try to find foes, knowing that’s none of your businesses. It amazes me that flying kites and popcorn with cheese are a few of your favorite things. If you had to choose an emotion to describe your life, you’d choose love. You find the melody in music to play it to your heart and, there you seek life. In the beat. In the motion. In the time stood still, you’ve captured the essence of healing and growing. You can’t simply love yourself. You have to honor yourself. Your magic is in more than the makeup that makes up your face. You are more than the body that your soul resides.

You are Human. You are Kimberly. Love yourself.

If you had to write yourself a letter at the front of your journal, what would it say? Let me know in the comments!
