What I Wish I Knew Before Gastric Bypass

Gastric Bypass is no small feat. It is not a simple process to go through. In my experience, people tend to shame weight loss patients as they have taken the easy way out. However, the only minor thing was signing the multitude of papers to let them know I was aware of the possibility of death. Death is inevitable. We will all die. The unexpecting part was a possibility that it could be cut short at 30. So, I took the risk and went through with it. After being three years of experiencing 150 weight loss, here is my shortlist of what I wish I knew before weight loss surgery.

Dating Is Still Problematic.

God, if you are out of husbands. Just say that …(lol I got this from my sisters) I have to bring this up. Although women say that this is not a reason for weight loss, I have to call. B.S.! It is not a top reason, but it does play a factor. I am dating again, however, IT. IS. NOT. EASY. The selection at 25 is just as grueling at 33. I think this has caused me to refine myself and whom I entertain with my time and presence. So, this requires more internal work as external just changes the faces of the man but, you will get the same characteristics of previous men you use to date if you do not do the internal healing. Remember, everyone has a preference. Losing weight will not change a person's mind about you. Change your thoughts about yourself, and the man that you desire will come. I am not God, and I do not know when it will happen, but a good book, I found to help me while on the dating journey is The Man God Has For You By Stephan Labossiere. I will review it on another post soon.

You Will NOT Look How You Envision.

Stop. Do not set yourself up for failure or regret. When we know that surgery is on the horizon, we glimpse into our future. We dream of what we will look like, the clothes we will by, and how the world will accept you. scuuurrrrr. (that is a screeching car sound by the way…lol.. It is my blog. I make up the words.) Unless you have money at the ready, plastics will be a few years out unless medically necessary. Even then, it is going to take a lot of contouring and skin removal for you to see your dream body. You will have to use waist trainers, compression clothes, or other body slimming products to help get you there until you can afford to shell out another 20k. I know there are financing options but, for me to do this to myself to need another operation is lightweight disheartening. Loose skin is not the reason you should not have weight loss surgery, its a reminder of why you needed it.

All Bodies Are Different.

Please do not expect your experience to be the same as another person. All our bodies are different. We have different chemical responses, reactions, and makeups that could impact how successful we are on our journey. Before weightless surgery, i was never someone who could eat whatever they wanted and still lose weight. It is not in my DNA. I have known people to go through surgery and come out on the other side to eat whatever they like and drop the pounds like hotcakes. Unfortunately, my body did not react in the same way. I follow a semi-boring routine, sprinkled in with a little bit of flavor. LOL. Someone might have the same build as you, but that does not mean you will receive the same amount of weight loss or have a similar experience. I am a brick house (go head and sing the song, lol!). Lol. I was NOT meant to be skinny. Short, thick, and healthy, and I'm ok with that.

Knowing what I know now, I could have better prepared/managed my expectations accordingly. The process to which I can speak to is lengthy; however, it was worth it!
